Día de los Muertos
Single release mezcal from Oaxaca.
BORN IN FOLKLORE
Echoing the legend of the Chulele, we transform the Oaxacan maguey into our signature mezcals. Possessing a range of distinct flavors from the land where they are born, including earthen, smokey and citrus tones, we bring you Chulele Mezcal. Handcrafted by our select maestro mezcaleros, we use artisanal methods that honor the centuries-old Zapotec traditions of their forefathers.
There is a hidden power to transform within all of us … #discoveryourchulele
Mezcal is a Oaxacan tradition that has been passed down from father to son for generations.
Our agave plants grow sweet under the warm Oaxacan sun for at least
captured in each batch
At Chulele we use the Espadín variety of agave (Agave Angustifolia) grown using organic methods. The agave plants are cultivated with special attention given to their growth and care, so that each one develops as Nature intended - under the blazing sun of the Oaxacan countryside. Once the plants have reached maturity at 8 to 12 years old, they have accumulated energy in "el corazón" or the heart of the agave. The heart is also commonly known as "la piña" or the pineapple. This is the main ingredient used to produce alcohol. We make certain the maguey is harvested before it begins to sprout the “quiote” - its majestic flower.
Chulele is made using artisanal methods handed down over generations. Following the traditions of the maestro mezcaleros, our mezcal is handcrafted in exactly the same way as their ancestors have done for centuries. We distill a beverage with complex character on a par with the finest spirits in the world.
We cook the agave hearts in a conical oven, cut into the rich Oaxacan soil and lined with walls of river stones. After cooking for 4 to 5 days, we grind the agave into a mash with the "tahona" - a type of round millstone. The stone wheel is turned slowly, crushing the maguey hearts with the power of a horse. The ground mash is then combined with water and moved to large pinewood barrels where the fermentation process slowly takes place. Once the fermentation is complete, the juice is distilled in copper pots to produce our signature mezcals with their rich textures and full-bodied flavors.
The care our maestro mezcaleros take to craft each limited release batch is why Chulele is sought after by aficionados and appreciated by those new to the world of artisanal mezcal. Chulele artisanal mezcals are the embodiment of the highest standards of quality and purity. ¡Salud!
